Removal

1. Remove the large rear plastic fascia and silver heat shielding.  It is optional to re-install these parts at the end.

2. Using a spring puller or piece of wire remove the 4 springs holding the muffler to the head pipe.  Note the way the springs are oriented, the longer leg should be towards the head pipe.  Save these springs as they will be used in the installation of the new HMF slip-on.

3. Remove the mounting bolts and rubber mounts securing the muffler to the frame and remove the muffler.(See Figure #1)

 - Figure 1

4. Inspect the donut gasket on the head pipe.  If worn or damaged replace with a new OEM gasket.  (See Figure #2)

2. Install the muffler from the passenger side.  Mount the previously installed muffler and bracket to the original mounting locations using the provided (2) M10 bolts, (2) M10 nylock nuts, and (4) ¼" washers.  Do not tighten.

3. Check that the muffler inlet sits flush against the exhaust donut gasket, then using the previously removed (4) springs, install them between the head pipe and HMF slip-on muffler.  Pay attention to the orientation of the springs. The side with the longer hook will attach to the original head pipe.  (See Figure #4)

 - Figure 5

4. Adjust the alignment of the muffler as needed, and check for clearance between all other parts then tighten the mounting hardware on the bracket.

5. OPTIONAL: Reinstall the previously removed rear heat shield and plastic fascia.

NOTE: We have noticed that both with stock exhaust and HMF exhaust the idle on this machine is quite rough until the engine is at full operating temperature.  This is normal and not harmful to the exhaust.
