For Models: Ranger® 1000 (2020-2022)
!!! WARNING !!! Before working on your machine, make sure it is parked on a level surface with the transmission in park and/or the parking brake engaged.
Do not work on any machine with a hot engine or exhaust. Allow time for all parts to cool in order to reduce the risk of burns.
Blackout Exhausts: Take care not to get grease or oils on the exhaust. Cleaning our Blackout exhaust with harsh solvents, abrasives, or pressure washers will remove the coating and is not covered under warranty.
1. Remove the (2) bolts securing the inlet of the silencer to the headpipe. Save the springs on these bolts, they will be used for the installation of the HMF exhaust.(See Figure #1)
2. Using a spring puller, rope, or wire remove the (2) springs on either side of the original silencer. Take caution not to let the silencer fall of the machine and damage other components.(See Figure #2)
3. Remove the silencer from the vehicle.
4. Inspect the gasket on the headpipe of the vehicle. If worn or damaged replace with a new gasket. This part is not provided with the HMF exhaust.
1. Using the provided (2) M8-1.25x20 Hex Bolts, (4) 1/4" Flat Washers, and (2) M8-1.25 Nylock Nuts loosely assemble the silencer to the Mounting Bracket. (See Figure #3)
2. With the provided (2) M8-1.25x30 Hex Bolts, (2) 1/4" Flat Washers, and (2) 1/4" Aluminum Spacers prepare the mount the silencer as shown in the image below.(See Figure #4)
3. Carefully align the mounting bracket with the previously installed hardware and loosely secure it using the remaining (2) 1/4" Flat Washers, and (2) M8-1.25 Nylock Nuts. (See Figure #5)
4. Align the inlet of the silencer with the gasket of the headpipe. Secure the flange to the headpipe using the original (2) springs saved during disassembly and the provided (2) Shoulder Bolts, and (2) 3/8" USS Washers. Tighten the shoulder bolts until they bottom out on the headpipe's flange. (See Figure #6)
5. Tighten the hardware between the bracket and the silencer followed by the hardware between the bracket and the frame.
6. Inspect for proper clearance and alignment, adjust as needed.
-Wipe off any fingerprints or markings using a soft cloth and mild detergent such as soap and water or glass cleaner without ammonia. Once the exhaust heat cycles any oils left on the exhaust may permanently imprint.
-If you received a stainless steel exhaust without the Blackout coating it is normal for the pipes to change color as they heat cycle.
-The HMF Blackout exhaust will smoke and put out an odor for the first full heat cycle as the coating goes through its final curing process. It is recommended to allow this process to happen in a well ventilated area.
-All systems will produce a smoke out the end cap after a short initial heat cycle, this is the packing material bedding in and is completely normal.
-Until the exhaust has been heat cycled a few times small exhaust leaks may be noted at any of the connection points or from the rivets on the silencer. This is normal and usually goes away after a few hours of run time.
