EFI Controller Support
What is an HMF Optimizer?
Anytime you install an aftermarket exhaust system to your machine, re-jetting (re-mapping on EFI machines) your carburetor is a necessity. The HMF Optimizer is an Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) Controller that allows you to adjust your fuel mixture for proper performance. Using an HMF Optimizer with your HMF Exhaust ensures your going to get the maximum performance possible. Each one of our Optimizers are preset with the best settings from our Research and Development Department. However, the Optimizer can be adjusted to suit your modifications, elevation, and ambient conditions.
Make sure the engine, exhaust system, and surrounding areas are cool before starting the mounting process. Read and understand the manufacturer's installation instructions completely before installing. You are responsible for the final safety check of your installation.
Mounting Your HMF Optimizer:
Mount the wires and optimizer box in a location clear of any moving parts or high heat source. The optimizer box needs to be mounted so there's no handling problems with the machine.
Connecting Your HMF Optimizer:
When your machine is started, green lights will flash back and forth verifying everything is working properly. See Figure 1. Flashing red and green lights indicate you have a bad connection or a bad ground connection. See Figure 2. If this happens, turn off the machine and check all your connections to confirm they're properly connected.
Adjusting Your HMF Optimizer:
You will need to start the machine and let it idle before trying to verify or change any settings. If you happen to remove power from the Optimizer, your settings will be saved from the last save point. If you have any problems in set up or tuning, turn the bike off to kill the power on the controller.
The Mode Button: The center Mode Button allows you to move through three different circuits for tuning. See Figure 3
Green Mode: Pressing the Mode Button once will bring up the Green Mode. The Green Mode changes the settings up to 1/4 throttle position. See Figure 4
Yellow Mode: Pressing the Mode Button twice will bring up the Yellow Mode. The Yellow Mode changes settings in the 1/4-3/4 throttle position.
Red Mode: Pressing the Mode Button three times will bring up the Red Mode. The Red Mode changes settings in the 3/4 -Wide Open throttle position.
Note: If you press the Mode Button too fast or too slow the Optimizer will fail. Wait 15 seconds before you touch the Mode Button and it will reset itself.
The Plus (+) Minus (-) Buttons: The plus/minus buttons change the settings in the 3 different modes. The position of the flashing green light in the light bar shows the fuel position setting. Figure 5 shows a setting of 3. Two green lights side by side indicates 1/2 of the lowest position setting. Figure 6 shows a setting of 3.5.
To add fuel: Decide what Mode you want to adjust in (Green, Yellow, Red) and press the Mode button accordingly. While the Green Light is blinking press the (+) button increase the fuel setting. Figure 7
To remove fuel: Decide what Mode you want to adjust in (Green, Yellow, Red) and press the Mode button accordingly. In most cases we suggest not removing any fuel. If you need to remove fuel, while the Green Light is blinking press the (-) button decrease the fuel setting.
