I have a 03 z 400. I just got a slip on and K&N air filter. I did some mods to the air box. HMF site says to use a 170 jet, however it still runs to rich. I moved down to a 160, and still have the bike running to rich. Has anyone else done these mods, and what jet have they used? Thanks for all the help.

Please explain (exactly) what airbox mods you did and if you are still running with the lid on or off and what elavation are you. :)

I drilled five 1 inch holes in the top of my snorkel, plus cut open the back of the snorkel (I want to keep most of the snorkel due to the fact we do a lot of riding in mud and water). I am riding with the air box lid on. I took it off; to see how much of a difference it would make on the 160, however there was no major difference. Elevation, I am really not quit sure. I live in Kansas City. Thanks for all your help.

Since you want to keep your lid on and the snorkel, you need to try a smaller main jet, maybe a 150 or less. Another option would be to remove the snorkel and leave the boot on and purchase the OUTERWEARS LID BOX cover and cut out most of the innner part of the lid and leave the outer rim to secure the OUTERWEARS in place.the OUTERWEARS IS SOMEWHAT WATER REPELLANT and will keep mud and rocks out.As far as the boot on the front of the airbox, maybe you could find a new boot that is a 90 degree and mount it upward. You might want to read my post on HMF FULL SYSTEM ROCKS.
Hope this helps. :)

You need to do a plug check as you're going along.
