View Full Version : Race Tips??
How about starting some racing tips from the pros? That would be awesome!
For starters what's the best way to shoot between trees on tight sections? I've heard that you never want to look at the trees, but are there any other things we can also do to get quicker? How about how to increase your stamina? I've just run my first two races so I need lots of help.
Thanks,

You're reading our minds on that one. The only problem is that the Pro Racers are kinda like rock stars...they want to see more of a crowd before they take the stage. Just keep asking the questions and they will come. It's almost noon here so I'm going to call Johnny G right now and wake him up.

Planning is not one of my strong points. I don't know what I'll be doing tomorrow so September is a lifetime away. We are planning on taking a big crew to July 10 & 11 The John Penton Millfield, OH.

You got it Tuna, you never want to look directly at the trees but instead look through them. It takes a little practice to learn which ones are safe and which ones aren't.

I luv to look through trees especially when i am plastered up against them..... :D ....... best seat in the house to look through trees.....
OK ... seriously now.... how do you win races...... thats all i need to master now.....
J/J
My biggest prob is the trees and i have tryed to look through them around them over them even under them and my biggest prob is just clipping them with the outside of my front tires....... talk about a swollen wrist and hand the next day.....
I guess i can just keep look past them and through them as you said.....
OH by the way.... i can ride the mud with the best of 'em....... maybe not jeff but i can take most 4x4s on in the mud holes..... :D

LOL....thanks KM
Another thing that some people do is to get as close to one tree as possible so you know you'll clear the other side but I feel like that takes your eyes off the trail in front of you.
Finished my third race this weekend and I'm getting better at missing the trees. Now I just need to improve my stamina so I can keep pushing it until the end.
Later,

Lissen here JOE.....I am not still in bed at Noon.
As far as racing tips....I recommend standing as much as possible, it helps absorb some of the rough stuff...It takes time to get in shape enough to stand for lang races, but it really helps

I never said you were sleeping in your bed, Jeff from Carb Parts says you do some of your best work while sleeping at your desk.
I see you don't mind being compared to a rock star though.

Another thing that you can do off the quad in the gym is cardio work outs. Run on a cross trainer for 30 min. If you do weights, lift light weight with alot of reps.

Thats what i have been doing..........
Its been working as well..... i have alot more stamina and strength......
Here i got a ?..... what size tires do most of you run.... is it a 22 - 20 set up 22-22 or 23-22..... i swear that the rears in most races look like they are huge and i know that it depends on if the track is muddy rutted and so on but i also heard that if you run a 22-22 set up that you will throw your quad off balance.... i ran a 23 - 22 set up for a while and then i switched back to 22 - 20..... So i was just wondering what the PROs think of that....
Thanks

I run 22/21 under normal conditions and 22/22 in the mud. This setup has worked very well for me.
